WEDG Trainings, Portside Team Outings, and Celebrating our Team's Growth and Expansion
Karp Strategies is thrilled to announce that multiple team members will be participating in the Waterfront Edge Design Guidelines (WEDG) Training held by the Waterfront Alliance this upcoming winter session! Several of our team members participated in the training last year, as a critical way to contribute additional skills to our growing Renewable Energy + Offshore Wind practice area.
As part of our end-of-year celebration, the Karp Strategies team visited the Brooklyn Cruise and Red Hook Container Terminals last month. Given all the work we do on the waterfront - and recent global supply chain challenges at ports - it seemed like a particularly timely moment to ensure our whole team understands the inner workings and import of regional marine terminals. Our CEO, Rebecca Karp, also recently wrote an op-ed to this effect - With Supply Chain Issues Canceling Christmas, Local Ports Need a Game Plan - highlighting the need to invest in our port infrastructure.
Our team had a great opportunity to learn more about the crucial role our ports play in moving consumer goods through dense urban areas, and to understand first hand how supply chain issues (like those highlighted in the op-ed) are playing out in real time throughout North America. More importantly, we were able to ask detailed questions about how the port leadership teams dealt with the ongoing curveballs of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Karp Strategies team plans on taking the lessons learned from our port visits and applying them to our current and future projects related to port infrastructure and supply chain management.

Thank you to both the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal and the Red Hook Container Terminal staff for graciously supporting our firm’s professional development and taking the time to give us tours around your facilities.
Karp Strategies team members Carlos Mandeville, Gopinath Gnanakumar Malathi, Jeff Lee-Romero, and Leah Yudin also had the opportunity to visit the GCT Bayonne facility in New Jersey. Our team members have been growing their expertise in our Transportation + Infrastructure and Real Estate Development Advisory practice areas and were thrilled to have the opportunity to learn more about New Jersey’s port systems. As our team continues to grow and expand our expertise in port infrastructure strategy and waterfront development, Karp Strategies looks forward to working with key players in this space to help our ports meet the needs of local and regional communities.
