ABOUT
Sharon
AREAs of expertise
Sharon brings a keen design eye and sound technical understanding of the built environment to her work as a planner. She combines this with her background as a communication strategist, developing creative narratives and storytelling approaches to convey analysis and recommendations to a wide range of audiences. Adept at data visualization, Sharon combines spatial and non-spatial data analysis with qualitative methods to inform planning interventions.
Sharon carries deep knowledge in sustainability, climate resilience, and clean energy, honed through her work at the Regional Plan Association (RPA) and the Columbia Climate School. At RPA, she supported stakeholder engagement for climate resilience, offshore wind projects, and research on offshore wind ports. Sharon also co-authored the 2023 “State of Climate Adaptation Today” study and report, a nationwide survey of climate adaptation plans and strategies. As part of the teaching team at the Columbia Climate School, she guided student-led capstone projects focused on sustainability, such as clean energy siting, green infrastructure, and building decarbonization projects, focusing on applying spatial and data analysis methods. Previously, Sharon also worked as a communications strategist for Safe and Sound Cities, an urban development program focused on making cities safer for young people, where she engaged global project partners to build and implement a program communication and outreach strategy.
At Karp Strategies, Sharon supports projects focused on inclusive procurement, public realm revitalization, clean energy, resilience, and port infrastructure through research and stakeholder engagement. A native of Kerala in India, Sharon is constantly on the hunt for great South Indian food in the city.
